I know what some of you are thinking: "Who does she think she is busting out with an FAQ post? Jasmine Star?" No, I'm not living in fantasy land. But the reality is that I've started receiving more questions in my inbox each week than I have time to answer personally. Wow! I really am flattered that you think I might have the answers, so thanks for boosting my ego! I so wish I had could answer each of you personally, but I just can't. I hope you'll agree that posting answers here to some of the questions I repeatedly get is the next best thing. Here goes FAQ Post #1:

Lori asked:
Where do you find all the backgrounds (bright walls) that are in your pictures. They look great and give your pictures a lot of personality.

Thanks Lori! I have a little obsession that I think a lot of photographers share. It involves searching for perfect photo shoot locations. Everywhere I go I see places that I'd like to shoot and often talk clients into checking out the spots with me. Sometimes my ideas sound REALLY strange, but those are the ones that usually turn out to be favorites!

Amie said:
I would love to meet you sometime. Are you available to share some of your wisdom? Let me know. :)

I would love to meet you too Amie! Unfortunately, the short answer is: no. That sounds awful though, so let me explain. Quite a few aspiring photographers have asked me this question. I'd love to be able to get together with all of you, but I also like seeing my husband every now and then! One of the things I'm trying to learn is balance, and for me that means putting my personal life and marriage first. Unfortunately that also means some things have to give. But I've tried to be creative and have come up with what might be a solution for some of you. I've created a "be my shadow" program that is basically an opportunity for you to go with me to a portrait photo shoot and hang around afterwards to ask questions, chat about the biz and maybe even become B.F.F. :) The catch: I charge $150 for this fabulous opportunity. Why? Two reasons: 1.) I have a mortgage. 2.) If you have to invest a little you will put more thought and preparation into it and will make the most of the opportunity! Shoot me an email if you're interested. I'm booked for the next few months with portrait sessions, so you can choose which one you want to shoot!

April asked:
Where did you get your tutu/crinoline you wore in your picture for Scarlett's contest? I want to get some for girls to wear for photo shoots.

April, I love that skirt too! Sometimes I even wear it around the house. ;) It's a vintage petticoat, and I bought it on eBay. If you don't use eBay, set up an account today. It's my absolute favorite website! I rarely shop in stores anymore, because I just don't feel inspired by what they have to offer. Instead, I get on eBay and look for unique, interstering pieces that make a statement. Did I mention that I love eBay?!

Julie asked:
When you shoot a fast-paced event and have to change lenses do you put the lens cap back on your lenses before putting them back in your shootsac?

Julie, this is such an interesting question. I've never heard it before but wanted to post it, because I like it! I try really hard to put the lens caps on my lenses, but I don't always do it. When I'm working really fast and under pressure I often forget where I put my cap. Is it in the shootsac, my pocket, maybe I handed it to Anderson or am even holding it between my teeth? Yep, that's a lovely sight! If I have time, I'll take a minute to locate it and put it back on the lens, but that doesn't always happen. Also, I'm not exactly known for taking the best care of things. At least the shootsac protects the lens! :) I also use a lens pen to clean my lenses. Anderson bought it for me for Christmas two years ago, and I use it all the time!

I hope these questions and answers help at least one or two of you! Oh and one more thing, I noticed today that 25 people are still following me through Google at my old blog URL. Don't forget to update it, so you don't miss anything!

Every year the contestants in the Miss Mandarin High School pageant get together a month before the competition and have pictures taken. The headshots are used in the program that's handed out on the big night. This year I had the unique opportunity to work with them! It was amazing, because the girls are gorgeous and actually like being in front of the camera. What else could a photographer want?! The best part was that after the headshots were taken, I had a quick mini-session with each contestant. I can't wait to go through those pictures-these girls know how to work it for the camera and each one looked absolutely fierce!!! Here's a little preview of the headshots. I'll share the individual photo sessions soon.

Last night's Jacksonville PUG meeting was held at the Almeida House. What a great group of photographers-we loved having everyone over! It's always fun catching up and meeting new faces. Our fearless leader, Scarlett, wasn't with us, but Kate Gardiner filled in for her and did a great job catching us all up in the latest Pictage news. Thanks for leading us Kate!

PS-None of you took your yummy leftovers. Shame on you. Anderson and I both have stomach aches from "cleaning up the kitchen" after you all left!!!

It was the night before we were supposed to leave for WPPI, and I was sitting on our bedroom floor with suitcases all around me...empty suitcases. Anderson came in and looked around, obviously surprised that I hadn't made much progress since I had been packing for over an hour. He asked what was wrong, and I burst into tears. The tears quickly turned into ugly, snotty-nosed, gasping for air crying. The worst part was that I couldn't explain what was wrong, because I just couldn't pin point it. In between sobs I told Anderson that I had too much going on and not enough time to do everything. I didn't want to go to Vegas anymore, because I knew I would feel pressured to work the whole time, and all I wanted to do was relax for a few days. He listened to all the blubbering and finally said, "You're burnt out. We're going on this trip, but you don't have to work at all. Let's just have fun." So that's exactly what we did! I didn't take my computer or the massive list of fab photographers I wanted to meet and network with. Instead I just took a silly book to read on the plane, and when we got to Vegas we decided to be total tourists. I dragged Anderson to see EVERYTHING. Even though we didn't get much sleep I came home feeling refreshed and energized. Maybe next year I'll actually take a class or two while I'm there...maybe not!

The tradeshow was incredible. Information overload for sure! This is me and Jessica Claire at her booth. She's such a rockstar!

We had no idea the fountain show was starting, so we were pretty excited at our timing!

Us inside the Venetian. My absolute favorite hotel in Vegas. My mom and I stayed here once!

We were pretty impressed by the vine woman. She was on stilts and covered in leaves. Weirdness!

This cool lounge was right below our room.

We have really bad "staying in a hotel" etiquette. Look at that messy room!

Enjoying our last day.

A few more of the photographers from our night shoot have posted pictures, so I wanted to share their links with you:

Jackie Blair from Michigan,
Cindy Schultz from Illinois,
Noelle McCoy from Tennessee, and
Beth Dreyer from Texas.

I just love Mark and Jenny! And no, it's not just because they own my favorite yogurt place-yogaberry! I'm drawn to them, because they are kind and truly care about each other as well as other people. When Jenny asked me to shoot their wedding I got excited. Then when she told me they were holding the reception at their gorgeous home AND were serving yogaberry for dessert, I was in! When it comes to weddings, I'm a little obsessed with two things: 1.) "behind the scenes" type images that give you a feel for the chaos, emotion and fun of the wedding day 2.) and all-things-bride. So even though I have a lot of favorite shots from the day I wanted to post a little sneak peak of some of my favorites of Jenny that fall into those two categories. More to come...
