"Don't be frightened, Mary," the angel told her, "for God has decided to bless you! You will become pregnant and have a son, and you are to name him Jesus. He will be very great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give him the throne of his ancestor David. And he will reign over Israel forever; his Kingdom will never end!" (Luke 1:30-33 NLT).

An angel of the Lord appeared to [Joseph] in a dream. "Joseph, son of David," the angel said, "do not be afraid to go ahead with your marriage to Mary. For the child within her has been conceived by the Holy Spirit. And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins" (Matthew 1:20-21 NLT).

And so our infinite God stepped out of the perfect peace and pure joy of heaven into a single cell in the womb of a girl--a girl that He had knit together in her mother's womb. For nine months baby God grew. He grew a heart, lungs, and eyelashes--all part of His ingenious design. Then, in a stable with animals that He had created, baby God was born. The One who had dreamed up the earth moved nearer to place His feet on it. God didn't come as a grown man--that would have been marvelous enough--He came as a wobbly-necked newborn.

It was His plan.
. . . From heavenly crown to earthly cradle . . .
. . . From throne to womb . . . and then to a stumbling toddler . . . to a curious child . . . to a young adult . . . to a grown man . . . to die on a cross.
All to rescue us.

It's just too much. Yet it's not a mere story, it's not just a fairy tale. It's an event that actually happened. It's historically true. At a point in time, the brilliant Master of the Universe left the perfect love of heaven to step down to earth and rescue us.

What kind of God does that? What kind of God leaves His overwhelmingly magnificent home, a home that's more marvelous than we can ever imagine because we've only lived in fallenland? What motivated You to come here, God? To submit Yourself and all of Your infinite glory to the confines of a womb of one of Your creations? And then, years later, to die for those creations--some whom would never even turn and acknowledge what You did for them?

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son . . ." (John 3:16).
Christmas morning was a declaration of the heart of God. Jesus' baby cries proclaimed for all the world, "This is who I am. I am Your God, the God who came to earth to find and rescue you. I am the God of goodness, justice, peace, mercy, hope, and wholeness. I love you deeply--can you see just how much? So do not worry, I am here. Do not fear, I have come."

Our God didn't just say "I love you." He lived "I love you." And He lived His "I love you" all the way from the womb to the cross.

God, The King of the Universe, loves you. So much that it's almost inconceivable. So much that it's hard to believe. But do believe it. It is overwhelmingly, wonderfully true.

In the birth of the Baby in a manger, may your soul find its worth this Christmas.

I wish I could remember where I found this. I saved it to my computer last year and just came across it again this week. Hopefully it will remind you, as it did me, just how much you are loved!

Merry Christmas to all of you. :)

PS-I'm getting ready to make Jesus' birthday cake...it's a family tradition. Do you think He likes spice cake? I couldn't decide. Anderson doesn't, but it's not for him anyway! More on that later. ;)

Dear Blog,
I want to start writing more personal posts again...like I did back in the day when me and two other people were the only ones who read you. This should be interesting. These are just a few thoughts I've had this week:

-I love that our Life Group leader refers to us as "The Almeidas". I feel so grown up!

-I just learned that you're supposed to wash poultry before cooking it...but not red meat. The kitchen is such a confusing place. My parents broke the news to me. They were stunned. I think they may have felt like they failed me.

-I hope the person who scratched up the passenger side of my car is now on Santa's Naughty List.

-I'm happy that 5 Guys has a grilled cheese veggie sandwich - mmmm.

-I'm thankful for people who take time out of their busy schedules to just "be there" for me and Anderson.

-I think it's so great that our pastor's name is Spike and his wife's' name is Kitty. LOVE that!

-I cried in Walmart the other night. No-not because I hate going there. :) We were buying clothes for a baby girl who's in foster care, and I realized that she has nothing. Nothing. And we have so much. I cried, so we left.

-I can't decide which is stranger: American children believing that Santa Clause brings all the toys on Christmas Eve, or Colombian children believing that the baby Jesus delivers them.

-I always forget if you can heat up milk in the microwave or not. I usually call my Mom and ask. It's weird to me that you can't sit it out and let it get warm, but you can heat it in the microwave...

-I'm really excited about 2010. It's cheesy but every December I get pumped for the New Year.

-I'm taking bass lessons from a hot guy who lives in my house. I use the word "lessons" loosely. I really just want to learn enough to make my own bass cd to play in my car with the windows down. :)

-I haven't finished Christmas shopping.

-I'm grateful for a relaxing weekend with the people in the pictures below...especially the tiny one!

Asher is such a happy little guy!

L-The Habeck fam. R-Me trying to squeeze in all the hugs I could in one short weekend.

This little guy loves his Mommy.

Already a fashion icon. :)

We have a series of "group hug" pics with Ben and Audrey. It was fun to add the munchkin this time!

It's not easy being the coolest kid in Atlanta. He even has a Twitter account!

Classic Audrey Habeck!

Don't tell anyone, but he whispered to me that I'm his favorite "Aunt".

This sums up our weekend-relaxing with good friends in our pjs!

Working with families and little kiddos makes me happy! It's my favorite. And yes, I'm aware that I say everything is "my favorite". It changes based on my mood, so for today- family shoots are my fav. :) I love seeing the interaction between people who truly love each other. And when those people also enjoy laughing and having fun together I get really excited. This year I focused on making family sessions more about the people than the locations. (Something I should've been doing all along!) The images below are only a fraction of my favorite family pictures from this 2009. But I hate scrolling forever and thought you might too, so enjoy just a little snippet:

Good Christmas music always puts me in the spirit. This will do it for you too!
From our church service last Sunday...
That middle silhouette with the mohawk looks familiar, right?!
Yep, he's mine. :)

Do they rock or what?!
There might have been some women screaming in the back...I might have been one of them. :)
Forget the Trans-Siberian Orchestra!

Hope you're all enjoying the season! I'm taking a little break this month, and it's wonderful. :) It's fun having extra time for making Christmas decorations, updating my website, organizing new projects (including a mentoring program I'm starting in January!!), cleaning the house before family arrives, visiting friends, buying gifts and watching Christmas movies!!! Oh and posting an overdue FAQ blog entry...

How did you start/fund your business?
It was a sloooooow process, because frankly, debt scares the *you know what* out of me. Ask Anderson! We try to live debt-free to the best of our ability, (other than a mortgage) so from the very beginning I just saved every penny I made from photoshoots and put it towards the business. Okay, other than the pennies that I sometimes spent on new clothes and other necessities. ;) Doing it this way meant I couldn't run out and buy everything I wanted at once, but it also meant I wasn't stressed over paying bills!

What is the best business resource you've found?
That's an easy one! The Easy As Pie Cookbook.
Early this year my friend Audrey told me to that I HAD to buy it. So I did. And let me tell you - it is the best photography business resource I've come across. If you feel like maybe you aren't charging the right amount for photoshoots and prints, get it. If you KNOW you aren't charging the right amount, get it. Trust me. You need it!

Mac or PC?
Both! I have a small PC laptop that I drag around the house with me. It's great for when I want to edit in bed on a rainy day or on the couch late at night. We also have a Mac Pro with a HUGE screen. Anderson said I needed it, but it actually makes my stomach a little queasy when I stare at it too long. The screen is that big! They both have their advantages, but I'm really not partial to either one.

I'm not a photographer, but I want a nice semi-professional camera (if that exists!) that I can play around with and learn on. What would you suggest?
I have gotten this question 5 times in just the last week. FIVE! Sounds like a lot of people are getting cameras for Christmas-yay! There are a lot of good cameras out there, but I always recommend the same one, because it's one I've used and loved: The Canon Rebel. It's a great camera. I like that it has a full auto mode that you can start out on. But if you want to really learn photography and play around with exposure and shutter speed and all that fun stuff you can, because it also has a manual setting. I got a Rebel when I graduated from college and used it for 4 years! I loved it. I actually still have it b/c I can't part with it. :)

We always take fun pictures in front of the Christmas tree. It's one of our silly traditions!
