I love Anderson's family! His brothers (and sister) are so much fun to be around and made me feel like part of their family from the very beginning. I'm blessed to have them in my life but just wish we all lived a little closer. It's hard not getting to see each other very often. Anderson, Wes and Will are really funny when they're all together, and I always enjoy girl-talk with Sara. Last week we went to Michigan to visit everyone, and even though the airline lost our luggage twice (I'm still whining about this) we had a great time!

It rained off and on the whole time we were there, but one afternoon it stopped just long enough for us to go to Robinette's Apple Orchard and take pictures of Will and Sara. The place was beautiful! I still have to edit their pictures, but here are a couple of teasers for them and some other shots we took that day:

We also spent a day walking around downtown Grand Rapids looking at some of the artwork entries from Art Prize. Next year I want to visit while the contest is going on! It was so cold, but we had a great time with Anderson's friend, Craig. He drove us all over the place.

Imagine That!

One of the reasons we went to Michigan this time was to see Wes before he gets deployed to Iraq again. He leaves very soon for training, so Will and Sara had some friends over just to hang out and spend time with him...and to give him some very thoughtful and extremely useful gifts. :)

We're not going to win Battle of the Bands anytime soon.

Anderson wanted to try on Wesley's Army gear. This just makes me laugh!

Dinner with everyone on our last night in MI.

In other news, Corinna Hoffman posted more pictures from our recent shoot with her. You can see them HERE. Happy Friday! Hope everyone has a great weekend. :)

I've worked with Kimberly and Ranburn several times and each one has been a treat for me. I hope they enjoy it at least half as much as I do. :) It's been fun to see them engaged, then married and now getting ready to celebrate their first Christmas as newlyweds. Kim told me they want to start their own holiday traditions, including a family photoshoot, so they loaded up their Smart Car with their two "children" and drove all the way from Tallahassee for our session together. Of course, the pooches stole the show...

Our little neighborhood is usually quiet. We thought we could drag our couch out to the front yard, across the street and in the middle of the street without anyone even noticing. We were wrong! Everyone wanted to know what was going on. The neighbors came out to watch, and our road that never ever gets any traffic was busy-we had to move the couch for cars to pass several times. Corinna Hoffman came over last night to shoot a portrait session for us, and we had so much fun with her. Not only is she a talented photographer, but she is so sweet and totally entertained us! She posted a sneaky peaky on her blog, and I am so impressed that I had to share them here too.

Thank you so much Cory-we love you!!!

Grandma would be thrilled to know we're having so much fun with her old couch!

Between the three of us we had some crazy ideas...can't wait to see the rest of the pictures. :)

Earlier this year, I started writing FAQ posts each month. I'm not good about answering questions I get through email, facebook and this site, so this seemed like a good way to respond to them while hopefully helping a few of you too. :) It wasn't long before I started getting a lot of personal questions. Some of them were funny, and some were just...strange. Rather than lumping them in with the photography stuff I thought it would be fun to do a series of personal FAQ posts. Everything you ever wanted to know - - and probably A LOT MORE for some of you!!!

You know those "what's in your bag" groups on flickr? People dump out the contents of their purse and take pictures of everything. I'd love to see you do one of those.
Here goes: I carry some random stuff. :)

purse, lip pencil, gloss, packet of instant grits, paint swatch, 2GB thumb drive, list of things I "need" from IKEA, Victoria's Secret coupon, cell phone, Hello Kitty band-aids, pens I've swiped from church, bunny pencil, business card holder, hair pins, red and gray nail polish, Advil, vitamin c powder, tithing envelope for church, pill holder, and wallet.

I love your decorating style. What are some of your favorite design websites?
These are a few that I visit often. They aren't necessarily design sites, but they're full of ideas and inspiration.

Where do you find all the killer cowboy boots?
Thanks! I love boots.
A few of my favorites...

Pink suede boots-Found them on ebay.
Tan riding boots-Made by Steve Madden. Bought them online.
Faux suede colorful boots-Also found these on ebay for a steal. :)
Metallic gold boots-My favorite pair! They're also Steve Madden and are so comfortable. Bought them at Dillard's (department store).
Brown and white cow boots-Christmas gift from Mom and Dad. Not sure who made them, but they are also from Dillard's.

When are you going to have a baby? Do you already have names picked out? If you do I bet they're different and fun.
Not sure when it will happen, but I think the fact that I've started carrying around a list of baby names I like means it's not too far away. Every time I think of a good one I write it down, so I don't forget!

One thing we've learned from watching friends have babies is not to share the names with anyone before the kid is born. People can really be rude and opinionated about it, you know? But yeah, the names we like are definitely different!

Do you decorate for seasons? Will you post some pictures?
Mainly just for Christmas. I do have a few fall things that I like to pull out.
I'll try to take more pictures...

The wreath was easy to make. I bought a cardboard "A" from Joanne's Fabric and glued fall leaves on it. Anderson thought it needed to be painted first, so I told him he was welcome to give it a coat. Notice that it isn't painted. ;)
Painting pumpkins is so much fun and much easier than carving! This one is supposed to be a blonde with red highlights.

I've read that your dad is a pastor. So is my husband! I'm wondering what you think your parents did right in raising you to become a creative, fun, open-minded person who still has high standards and morals. Any insight?
That's so sweet! Thank you. I know my Mom and Dad would take that as a major compliment. :) They really are amazing parents! They've always been real with us. No pretention-no fakeness, just authentic and transparent. They told us they weren't perfect and didn't expect us to be either. And most importantly they let us be ourselves. I think that's sometimes hard for minister's to do, but it's essential. I have a very strong will and probably would've been a really rebellious kid if they had forced me to be someone I wasn't.

They have always been really supportive too. They were the parents who went to every football game even though I was just a cheerleader. (I seriously hope my kids don't want to cheer, because I can't imagine going to games every Friday night and watching them yell and jump around for 3 hours-AAAGGHHH!!!)

They told us frequently that all they wanted was for us to live our lives in a way that would please Jesus. They didn't push us into ministry or make us feel obligated to follow in their footsteps. And they always told us how proud they were of us. I remember often thinking, "Why are they proud of me. I haven't done anything special." But they said it all the time!

It's not easy being a pastor's kid. It's like some kind of weird club that you don't ask to be apart of, and only others who've grown up that way can really relate. It really can be a wonderful experience though!

First I just want to tell you that even though I love your photography, your personal posts are my favorites! So my question is: If you don't eat red meat and don't like to cook, what the heck do you and Anderson eat?
This is so funny! We both laughed at this question.
Okay, let me clarify a few things:

1.) Just because I don't enjoy cooking doesn't mean I don't do it! Most weeks I cook 3 nights or so. And if we were home more, or had kids, I'd probably do it more often. We aren't the healthiest eaters, but I guess it's better than eating out every night. We do consume a ton of carbs around here...every week we have "Spaghetti Monday"-ha!

2.) Just because I don't eat much meat doesn't mean Anderson is deprived. Trust me-the man eats plenty of red meat, and I'm pretty sure his cholesterol levels prove it! He's become quite the grill master this year, so he often makes burgers (veggie burger for me) and steak (chicken for me). I make all the sides and force-feed him vegetables. :)

I'll end it here for today. Stay tuned for Round 2.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not much of a fan...of anything. This became clear as we were planning our road trip to the U2 concert in Tampa last week. Anderson and I were talking about how he gets really excited about his favorite musicians (Bono) and athletes (any Brazilian soccer player) and how I'm not really a loyal fan of anyone. Oh sure there was that time in middle school when I liked the Dallas Cowboys for about 10 minutes. I really just thought Troy Aikman was cute though. And yeah, I'm a "fan" of some photographers and designers on facebook. But am I going to pay a ton of money for a ticket to see them live? Or paint my face (or stomach-ewwwww) to spell out their name? Nope. Probably not. Well, I decided that it's time I try being a real fan of someone, and U2 seemed liked a good place to start. Besides, everyone loves them. Or at least knows some of their songs. Trust me-you might not realize it but you DO know at least one U2 song!

So here's how I set out to morph myself into a real U2 fan:

-Agreed with Anderson that purchasing the ridiculously over-priced tickets was a great idea.

-Bought matching Bono shirts for the two of us. Yes, matching shirts. We will ONLY do this for Bono. And can I just tell you that of the 72,000 people in the stadium we had the coolest shirts there. Everyone wanted to know where we got them. eBay!

-Packed a comfortable outfit suitable for the 90+ degree weather. It's really painful for me to choose function over fashion, but I even wore comfortable shoes just like Anderson instructed me. :)

-Chatted with random people about how great U2 is. I think it's weird how having something in common brings strangers together.

-Sang my little lungs out to every single song and sweated like I was running a marathon.

I have to admit that the show was incredible! Maybe the more you put into it, the more you get out of it?! I don't know, but it was the best concert I've ever been to. I haven't totally consumed the U2 coolaide yet. But I did taste it a little, and I liked it...a lot!

Every road trip needs caffeine-his and hers.

We had fun exploring Tampa. Thrift Store and IKEA were my favorite stops!

Professional cameras weren't allowed. I have no idea how my point-and-shoot managed to get these shots. ;)

Bono!

The stage was HUGE!

The Edge. (I want a name like that.)

Bono's biggest fans. You could tell by the shirts, right?!
